    1. CRA Fresno chapter to honor former Lime Lite owners with Best of the Valley Lifetime Achievement Award

    More than 500 restaurant operators and industry partners will convene Monday for the 2012 Best of the Valley Restaurant Awards gala hosted by the California Restaurant Association Fresno chapter. The event will honor George and Cathy Milutinovich, longstanding owners of the Lime Lite Restaurant and Bar, who are the recipients of the 2012 Best of the Valley Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Advocacy

    Palo Alto considers ban on plastic bags

    The City of Palo Alto is proposing expanding an existing ordinance’s requirements for single-use plastic bags. The ordinance would prohibit single-use plastic checkout bag distribution at retail, grocery and foodservice establishments. Foodservice establishments would not be required to use reusable bags or impose a store charge for paper bags and could use plastic product bags as defined by the ordinance for containers of liquids, such as soups and stews.

    San Jose prepares to ban foam food containers

    On Tuesday, the San Jose City Council will consider whether to ban the use of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam food ware, at all restaurants in the city. The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m., but note the council will not hear this item earlier than 3 p.m. Restaurants, caterers, delis and other food providers will see operating costs rise if a ban is adopted.
