Le Cordon Bleu to serve as gold sponsor of CRAEF's California ProStart Cup

(SACRAMENTO, Feb. 28, 2013) – Le Cordon Bleu will serve as a gold sponsor for the 2012 California ProStart Cup presented by the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF). The state competition will be held March 17-18 at the Pasadena Convention Center.

“We’ve looked to Le Cordon Bleu’s leadership and expertise for many years as the gold standard in culinary education,” CRAEF Executive Director Alycia Harshfield said. “Having the support of its chefs and administration translates to outstanding opportunities for California’s ProStart students, who dream of the chance to pursue their passion and study the culinary industry beyond high school.”

The competition is divided into two distinct events. Culinary students will prepare a three-course meal using two butane burners, while management students will develop and present a business proposal for a new restaurant concept, including a supporting menu, a marketing plan and a detailed design.

Esteemed Le Cordon Bleu chefs Ferdinand Metz, Ed Leonard, Jeffrey Coker, Randy Torres, Norma Salazar and Bill Hunt will serve on the panel of judges at the competition.

The winning team will be sponsored to compete in the 2013 National ProStart Invitational April 19-21 in Baltimore, Maryland. First-, second- and third-place teams also will qualify for scholarships to various culinary and hospitality post-secondary programs, including Le Cordon Bleu.
