La Quinta High School students who are part of the school's Culinary Arts Institute brought a little sweetness to the lives of 25 local seniors during the Culinary Showcase at the La Quinta Senior Center on Jan. 27.

Juan Carlos Garcia, 17, Joe Licalsi, 18, Amanda McCormick, 17, Tanisha Michel, 17, and Lauren Sherman, 17, conducted a demonstration of the lemon vanilla bean panna cotta served with almond tuile cookie, raspberry sauce and candied lemon curls, said Caroline Doran, La Quinta Senior Center recreation coordinator.

The demonstration is practice for the dishes they plan to whip up during the 2010 California Boyds Coffee Culinary Cup by the California Restaurant Association's Education Foundation March 6-7 in Sacramento.

The event was planned last year and since “the appreciation for this event from the seniors was so positive that were planning to have this event next year,” Doran said.
