The competitions
Culinary participants prepare a starter, entrée and dessert in just 60 minutes, using only two butane burners. Students participating in the management competition develop a business proposal for a new restaurant concept including a supporting menu, marketing plan and detailed design.
ProStart
The ProStart program is a two-year curriculum designed to teach high school students the culinary and management skills necessary for a successful career in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Through ProStart, students also have the opportunity to participate in paid internships mentored by industry managers. Once students have met academic standards and requirements, fulfilled a list of required competencies and completed at least 400 hours of mentored work experience, they are awarded the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement which signifies that they are well-qualified to enter the industry workforce.
