Food Fight Against Hunger will help FoodLink combat hunger

First pre-event food donation to be delivered Wednesday

VISALIA, June 29, 2010) – The California Restaurant Association Central Valley chapter will deliver thousands of dollars worth of food donated by Sysco and Land O’ Lakes to FoodLink to kick off its second annual Food Fight Against Hunger event. The delivery will be made at 10 a.m. June 30 at FoodLink 7427 W. Sunnyview Ave., Visalia.

The Food Fight Main Event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. July 18 at the Holiday Inn Visalia Grand Ballroom. The event will include hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer tasting, a silent auction and drawings for prizes. Attendees may bring canned food donations to the event in exchange for a drawing ticket. Tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Attendees must be 21 years old or older.

FoodLink is a nonprofit organization that works to end hunger in local communities. California’s Central Valley has one of the highest rates of hunger in the United States. FoodLink warehouses and distributes millions of pounds of food annually to a network of more than 80 nonprofit agencies that feed needy families. In 2009, FoodLink’s efforts resulted in more than 100,000 people being fed, with more than two-thirds of those served being children.
